Aaron Neville - Biography

Place of birth : New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Aaron Neville Trivia :
* He is one of the Neville Brothers group.
* Brother of Art Neville, Cyril Neville and Charles Neville.
* Uncle of Arthel Neville.

Aaron Neville Detailed Biography :
Aaron Neville (born January 24, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American soul and R&B singer. Aaron is the third of the four famous Neville Brothers (Aaron, Charles, Cyril and Art Neville) of New Orleans. A product of that city's richly complex musical culture, his first vocal model was older brother Art, keyboardist and founder of the Meters. Brother Charles played sax with B.B. King while brother Cyril became Aaron's partner in a funk band they called the Soul Machine.

Aaron Neville has had a career as a solo artist and also as one of the Neville Brothers. Of mixed African American and Native American heritage, his music also features Cajun influence.

Throughout the sixties Aaron recorded for local Louisiana labels, but it wasn't until 1966 that he broke onto the national scene with "Tell it Like it Is", the plaintive ballad that went #1 on the pop charts, a song still considered a classic in the annals of American music. Issued on the obscure Par-Lo Records, the hit unfortunately coincided with the label's demise. With no follow-up and few royalties, Aaron's career stalled. Beset by demons both professional and personal, he struggled for the next ten years.

Aaron, Charles and Cyril gigged as The Wild Tchoupitoulas in New York before returning to New Orleans in 1976 to record the landmark album of the same name. The Wild Tchoupitoulas album celebrated the Indian tribe whose leader, George (Big Chief Jolly) Landry, was the brothers' beloved uncle and prime musical/spiritual inspiration. For the first time, all four Neville brothers recorded together.

The Neville Brothers began their string of successful albums in 1977, beginning on Capitol and moving to A&M. The high point came in 1989 with "Yellow Moon", written and sung by Aaron on the Neville Brothers' album of the same name. The same year, Aaron appeared with Linda Ronstadt on her album Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind, from which their pop duet "Don't Know Much" was a successful single. Aaron credits Linda as a major help in finding a new life for his solo career, which was revived in 1991 with Warm Your Heart, the acclaimed album produced by George Massenburg and Linda Ronstadt.

Aaron has won a total of four Grammy awards: in 1989 for Best Pop Duo with Linda Ronstadt for "Don't Know Much"; in 1989 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance with the Neville Brothers for "Healing Chant," (Aaron is a percussionist as well as singer); in 1990 for Best Pop Duo with Linda Ronstadt for "All My Life"; and for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals with Trisha Yearwood for "I Fall to Pieces" in 1994. He was named "Best Male Singer" two straight years in the Rolling Stone critics' poll.

Aaron has recorded a dozen solo albums ranging in genre from gospel to country and is noted for his unusual vibrato singing style, which he says was inspired by Gene Autry's yodelling.

Neville -- his high pitched, dramatic singing style in particular -- was parodied on the February 19, 2005 episode of Saturday Night Live. In this sketch, Horatio Sanz played Judge Aaron Neville -- a fictional television judge who sang his verdicts and repeatedly applied cocoa butter moisturizer to his skin.

He was also parodied on Family Guy when Peter bought an Aaron Neville megaphone which transformed his voice into Neville's singing style.

He has a tattoo of a sword on his left cheek as well as others in more conventional places.

In August 2005 his home in New Orleans was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina; he evacuated to Memphis, Tennessee before the hurricane hit. Neville performed Randy Newman's "Louisiana 1927" during NBC's A Concert for Hurricane Relief on September 2, 2005. In 2006, Neville sang the The Star-Spangled Banner alongside Aretha Franklin at the Super Bowl in Detroit.

Aaliyah Dani Haughton Detailed Biography :
Hip-Hop historians accredit Aaliyah's debut album, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, for paving the way for Brandy, Monica, and the plethora of other teen stars who go by one name. Aaliyah Dani Haughton (legal name) was born January 16,1979 in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York.
Aaliyah's break is credited to her Uncle Barry Hankerson, CEO and owner of her management company, Blackground Enterprises. Barry Hankerson was/is Aaliyah's manager as well as her ex-mentor's manager R. Kelly. It was Barry who introduced the two and shortly after their acquaintance, production on Age Ain't Nothing But A Number ensued.
Aaliyah acquired the world's attention at the tender age of 15 when her first single "Back and Forth" landed #1 on the Hot 100 singles chart; dethroning her then svengali, R.Kelly and his track "Your Body's Callin". Shortly afterwards, her album was released under Jive records and another top five gold single was spawned. Not only was this single a remake of an Isley Brothers classic, but it also flexed Aaliyah's octave range and vocal versatility. Her rendition of "At Your Best (You Are Love)" ripped the airwaves and its listeners with its tumultuous and sensuous harmonies. A few other hit singles followed including the light hip-pop jam "Down With The Clique" and the adulterated title track. The provocative nature of the album's title and lyrics, as well as the mystery of her true age sparked a media frenzy about an alleged union between Aaliyah and her then mentor. This frenzy blossomed into a barrage of media rumors threatening to thwart a prosperous career.
Till this day no one is certain if there was ever a union between the two parties, but those two parties involved. However, Aaliyah denies ever being married to R. Kelly and R. Kelly refuses to comment. In addition, Aaliyah states that the reason she kept her age on the low was because she wanted the world to accept her for her music and not based solely on her age. Despite the rumors, critics gushed and Entertainment Weekly had this to say (6/17/94) ...Imagine En Vogue packed into one teenage body and backed by hip-hop svengali R. Kelly, and you have Aaliyah...a promising start...
The setting, 1996 and Aaliyah was gearing up for the release of her new album tentatively titled One In A Million. One In A Million proved that Aaliyah would make her mark on the ever-changing music industry by emphasizing the strength and maturity in her voice. Along with this maturity, Aaliyah carried the once underground hit-makers Missy/Timbaland to new heights.
This sound they would concoct on One In A Million, would take the music industry by storm. Hit after heart-pounding hit would follow, ultimately making her 1st sophomore single, the sexy, seductive, and taunt, "If Your girl Only Knew" the #1 spot on the hot 100 singles chart and the other singles radio heavy as well.
Before the close of '97, One In A Million (a #1 radio play single also) would go double platinum+ with the success of 4 Page Letter, Hot Like Fire, & The One I Gave My Heart To; shaking away any worries of a sophomore slump.

Allah Rakha Rahman was born A.S. Dileep Kumar on January 6, 1966, in Madras (now Chennai), India, to a musically affluent family. Dileep started learning the piano at the age of 4, and at the age of 9, his father passed away. Since the pressure of supporting his family fell on him, he joined Ilayaraja's troupe as a keyboard player at the age of 11. He dropped out of school as a result of this and traveled all around the world with various orchestras.

He accompanied the great tabla maestro Zakir Hussain on a few world tours and also won a scholarship at the Trinity College of Music at Oxford University, where he studied Western classical music and obtained a degree in music. Due to some personal crisis, Dileep Kumar embraced Islam and came to be known as A.R. Rahman. In 1987, he moved to advertising, where he composed more than 300 jingles over 5 years. In 1989, he started a small studio called Panchathan Record Inn, which later developed into one of the most well-equipped and advanced sound recording studios in India.

At an advertising awards function, Rahman met one of India's most famous directors, Mani Ratnam. Rahman played him a few of his music samples. Mani loved them so much that he asked Rahman to compose the music for his next film, Roja (1992). The rest, as they say, is history. He went on to compose several great hits for Tamil-language films before composing the score and songs for his first Hindi-language film, Rangeela (1995). The enormous success of his first Hindi venture was followed by the chart-topping soundtrack albums of films such as Bumbai (1995) , Dil Se.. (1998), Taal (1999), Zubeidaa (2001), and Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001), which was nominated for best foreign-language film at the 2002 Academy Awards.
